Squash: Eain Yow roars back to claim gold for Malaysia in Asian Games

HANGZHOU: Ng Eain Yow made it a day of double joy for Malaysia in the squash court by reclaiming the men's individual title for Malaysia on Thursday (Oct 5).

The 25-year-old bagged the second gold for Malaysia on Thursday by coming from behind to beat India's Saurav Ghosal 9-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7 in the final.

Eain Yow, the two-time Asian champion, thus avenged the defeat in the team event last week. He lost to Ghosal as India went on to win the men's team gold medal.

Azlan Iskandar was the last Malaysian winner in the men's individual at the 2010 Asiad in Guangzhou.

S. Sivasangari overcame Hong Kong's Chan Sin Yuk 8-11, 15-13, 10-12, 11-9, 12-10 in an energy-sapping 64-minute encounter in the women's singles final earlier.

It is the fourth gold medal for Malaysia in the Hangzhou Asian Games.

Nicol bagged a total of five gold medals in individual squash at the Asian Games between 1998 to 2018.

Mohd Syafiq Kamal-Aifa Azman settled for silver in the mixed doubles final after a 10-11, 10-11 defeat to Indian top seeds Harinder Pal Sandhu-Deepika Pallikal Karthik.
